New to the forum - so sleep deprived and need help!
« on: September 20, 2013, 13:04:26 pm »
Hi! I am new to the forum and desperately searching for some help. My son is almost 15 months old and has never slept through the night. I usually nurse him and put him back to bed. Lately, he hasn't been able to go back to sleep after he nurses. He then stays up in his crib on his own for at least an hour (usually longer). I watch him on the monitor and I see that he is trying to get comfortable, settle down, go back to sleep but he isn't able to. He then cries after about an hour, I come back and try and help him fall back asleep (nurse him again, rub his back, occasionally hold him, etc etc). It frequently happens during his midnight/1am feeding and 90% of the time for his 4am/5am feeding. I am incredibly sleep-deprived and I try to wake up at 4am to cook breakfasts, lunches, etc for my other kids and I can get nothing done. I haven't gotten more than 5 hours of broken sleep in weeks and I am absolutely exhausted. Let me add that I have never rocked him to sleep and put him awake in his crib since birth (99% of the time). He usually goes to bed at 7-7:30pm. He takes one nap around 11am for 1.5hrs-3hrs, usually around 2 hours. What am I missing here to help him sleep better? Should I add another nap back in? Put him to bed earlier/later? Nurse him around 3am to avoid that 4am/5am waking? I am so desperate for help and ideas! Thank you!!!!!

P.S. I should have added that most of the time he ends up waking up after the 4am/5am feed and not going back to sleep because his sisters get up for school, he hears us, etc etc so he tried for 1-1.5hrs and ends up getting up.

Hi and welcome to the forum, I'm hoping a mod will pop on here to help get you ALL the info you need but jsut a few basic questions. Have you read the book and are you familiary with the EASY terms to get you started?  And just from looking at your post we've got a few things going on. A feq questions.

Is he currently teethign? Have you tried offering medication as it sounds like it could be pain related?
can you give us a current EASY
You also have a feed to sleep prop going on and so when he's waking he's unable to go back to sleep with out your help. Are you willing to stop feeding to sleep and just working on resettling him with out feeding him? I do believe he's old enough now that he does not need night feedings at all.

We're here to help (hugs) you must be so tired.

Just to say I was going to ask the same questions as Siobhan. If you can post your day in a EAS format that would be really helpful.

Is your DS on full solids and does he BF during the day?
