Can I reuse this breast milk?
« on: October 14, 2013, 13:00:17 pm »
This morning I thawed some breast milk under hot running water to mix with rice creal(for the first time) and I had some milk left over. Can I put it back on the fridge and use it tomorrow? If not, can you tell me how can I use it more efficiently. I have 2-3oz frozen packets, but I only need a bit for the cereal. Thanks

Are you still breastfeeding/actively expressing at the moment?  When DD was first having cereal/purees I just expressed a small amount at the time I needed it as the volumes you need are really small.  I think if you've warmed the milk to defrost it I would probably not use it again though, maybe you could use the surplus to add to some purees/cooking?

What about offering the rest in a cup or something, perhaps, if you don't want to cook with it?

I used to freeze my breast milk in ice cubes and then bag it once frozen so that I could just defrost one ice cube at a time if that was all I needed. Otherwise maybe use milk you have just expressed and freeze any excess you don't use.

I'm not bf anymore, I stopped a while back and froze a lot of it when transitioning the baby to a bottle.

I'd just put what is left in the bottle then.

Thanks. That's a great idea.
