Sore nipples after feeding
« on: October 20, 2013, 20:00:20 pm »
Hi all,
Medi is 4 weeks tomorrow and she's a bit of a comfort feeder. I haven't been able to get her to take a dummy, she uses me instead.  :-\. I am working on that. I do however have quite sore nipples after she has fed. No pain while feeding but my nipples are very very sensitive and sore between feedings, it's worse when I'm cold and the odd time I have noticed the tips are white.  ???  Puzzling.

Or the beginnings of thrush? My nipples were always much more painful when I was cold when I had it.

More recent research suggests that thrush is not so common if LO if under 6w old.  Not impossible, but would be worth ruling out other causes before treating for it :) (reference - breastfeeding network)

I've seen that page Amanda. I would say it could be due to a shallow latch but I was wondering about raynauds since I do get that in my fingers and toes.

That would sound like a reasonable assumption.  I don't know lots about it, but have you tried some of the tips at the bottom for dealing with vasospasm generally?

That said, keep an eye on the latch too and maybe get yourself along to a support group to have someone have a check.

It's been a bit better today, I've been concentrating a bit more at night (ie trying to stay awake for the suckathon) and making sure she stays on properly and that seems to be helping already.
