What does your 13 week olds schedule look like?
« on: November 21, 2013, 20:32:36 pm »
Hey there, struggling with short naps and I'm really not sure if under tired or overtired or what!

I feel like we are right in line with "average A times" but still short naps.... We used to get one good nap and the others were short... Now they are all short.

Today:
Woke before 8
Slept while breasfeeding ( I let her) until 8:25
Tired signs 9:30, asleep 9:40-10:25, back to sleep with me putting paci in from 10:40-10:55; woke when I tried to leave room
Eat 11
Nap down at 12:25, asleep 12:40-awake 1:20 :-\
Just waiting now to see if she'll go back to sleep or else I'll try to extend...

Tried to extend with ssh patt but that was a disaster, she hates it. Gave her her soother and she slept another 10 min from 2-2:10,
Fed her 2:15
Back down for a nap at 3, asleep 3:10.

Hi! Your DD was born on DD3's due date...she didnt show up for another week!  We were getting short naps too until a couple of days ago...I upped her A time to 1 hr 45 min and made my naptime winddown more like the bedtime one and although she has needed a soother replug at 45 min I can easily resettle where before it was a lost cause!  She was not a fan of shh/pat either but I run white noise and just held my hand on her head. Slowly shortening the length of time I do that for.

If you want to commiserate with a bunch of us at a similar stage come check out the birth clubs:

Thanks!!! Heading over to check that club out because I think I need some one to talk too. Nobody in real life quite understands.

Third nap she was back down by 3 and asleep 3:10, awake and talking 3:40... Uuugh!

Is it bad to extend the nap with the soother?? My daughter goes down without it but then I give it to her in an attempt to get her back to sleep.

Well it depends on what you want whether it is bad or not...for us it is a prop for naptime for sure but at night she spits it out and rarely needs a replug for hours. Plus I know full well that I will be replugging it as needed until she can do it herself or finds her fingers/thumb instead! If she goes down without it though I would not want to bother! We have used it since she was 10 days old.

Yes she goes down with out it and at this point I'm just using it to extend her naps.... Not sure how else to extend them.

I don't really mind her falling asleep with it when I need her to... Because we are going to hawaii in December and will definitely be APOP all of her naps those travel days.

Us too! We've had -20 plus windchill.  :o

Think I'll aim to increase her first A time tomorrow.maybe if she's tired enough she'll be able to put herself back to sleep.
Is your de stretching out her feeds then? I just worry a bit about pushing out her A times because I worry she will be hungry when I'm trying to extend her nap.

Last night wasn't great; fed at 2 and 5 and then she woke at 7 crying. I fed her for like 5 min before she fell back asleep, but then she woke up when I put her down, talked for a couple minutes but went back to sleep until 8:05

So she woke 8:05, talked and was quiet until she started to complain at 8:15
Down for nap at 9:40, asleep 9:45 and awake 10:25.

So her awake time was about  1hr 40 but does that time in the crib before actually getting her up count as awake time?

If you know exactly when she wakes then I would count from there...I just work in guesses as she sometimes wakes in the morning and is quiet in bed and I dont use a monitor unless I am in a part of the house where I might not hear a louder cry.

As for the long A time running into the next E...well DD3 still takes ages to nurse so she seems well able to last 3.5/4 hours but she is also low sleep needs so after a 1hr 45min A time if she gets a 1 hr 15 min nap she is good to go.  In fact too long of naps and we get bedtime resistance and since she sleeps well at night I like to keep it that way!!!

Thanks Heidi,
It's so tricky because yes I don't use a monitor either; although I've thought about buying one.

I'd be happy with 1hr 15 min naps too.
When dd wakes at 45 min mark she is not crying, she wakes talking and then after 20 min it might escalate into a fuss/cry.
So today she started fussing at 10:40 and I tried to get her back to sleep until 11, fed her after that and she's just gone back to sleep at 12:15.

I don't want to rush in there..... But by the time I do go in, it's getting pretty close to her feed time. might have to try wake 2 sleep.

Kookyk,
Thanks for posting, looks like you are getting better naps then us but maybe a bit shorter night.

Yes I have been pondering W2S too...I keep meaning to and then losing track of time, should set an alarm on my phone to remind me to try it.

Julia's door and floors are so squeaky that there is no way I could sneak in.

Another 40 min nap and I ended up holding her with the paci back to sleep... That's not ideal ... :-\
