early wakings and sleep needs
« on: March 07, 2014, 15:14:14 pm »
Our 3-year-old son stopped napping about 6 months ago except in the car. He did very well for a few months with 12 hour nights with bedtime about 7:30 and wake up at 7:30. Now, he will nap occasionally in his room (about 2x/month) if he is really tired (or in the car on SOME days, if it is after 3pm). But, when he does nap he is up until 10:30pm. Doesn't matter how long or short the nap is...it seems to reset him enough to stay up very late (and still get up really early). .

Now he is waking anywhere between 4:30 (ack!!!) and 6:30. We have tried a few super early bedtimes but he either wakes a few hours later, apparently treating it like a nap, or he is up in the morning super early. His usual bedtime now is between 6:30  & 7:00. His nights are averaging at this time between 10-11 hours with a rare 11.5. We have not had a 12 hour night in a few months.

Any thoughts? Does he really just require very little sleep?
