Length of first awake time?
« on: March 23, 2014, 11:05:28 am »
Is it ok to keep the first AM awake time for 3.5 month old twins to 30 min including feeding time?
They show signs of sleepiness like yawning and rubbing eyes. Awake time is 630am. They're on a three hour EASY.

It sounds like that's more of a night feed if they are eating and basically going straight back to sleep. What time do they wake after the nap?

They take a nap lasting anywhere from 45 min to 2 hours. Usually it's more than 45 min, if we can successfully get past their first sleep cycle. Their next feed is 930am.

So they are waking any time from 7.45 to 9.00 am after that feed at 6.30am?
Are you happy with the late start to the day at 9am? Or did you want to start the day earlier?  If you wanted to begin the day earlier you could wake them and give a top up feed at say 7.30 and begin your day time EAS from there. They may begin to sleep a little later so the 'night feed' at 6.30am moves to more of a morning feed at 7.00/7.30.

Of course if you are ok with how things are then don't change anything ;)

Well...we've been treating their 630am wake up as the start of the day. I'm not sure if it's the right thing to do, but I wake them up at that time. Sometimes I wonder if I should let them wake up whenever they want as long as it's after 6am but before a certain time, for example 7am.

Anyway, after their 630am feed, they show signs of sleepiness less than 30 min later. I put them to bed and they wake up anywhere between 45 minutes to 2 hours later.

Here is our EASY routine in case it helps. Thank you so much.

Easy routine

E. 630am

S.  730

E. 930

S. 1045

E. 1230pm

S. 2

E. 330

S. 430 -5

E. between 6-630
A. Bath
S. between 630-7. Bedtime

E. between 10-11 dream feed

E. between 2-3am

Start over

If you are waking them at 6.30 then it seems the reason their first A time is so short is because they are still tired and haven't finished their night sleep yet.
It's up to you when you start the day, there is no 'right' so if the routine is working for you all as it is then leave it. Otherwise you could leave then to wake later.
