12 month old ew
« on: April 29, 2014, 10:02:52 am »
I feel like I post every few months on this topic. I just can't seem to figure it out. Baby turned 12 months old yesterday. I think she is getting molars. She keeps waking at 5:40 no matter what i try. Typical schedule:
5:40--wake up
I tried to resettle in crib--slept 10 more minutes. Woke and let her chatter until it turned to crying at 6:20
9:30--nap capped at 45 min
2:00--nap for 1.5 hours
7:15--in bed, chatter until sleeping by 7:30.

Do I need to make the first nap even later/shorter?

Am I doomed to wake up at 5:40 for the rest of my life???

I would cap the first nap at 30 mins and see if that helps.
FWIW DD always woke around that time on 2 naps - it did get better!

Thank you for the reply. I will try an eve shorter am nap I guess. Today she woke up crying at 4. I gave her Tylenol because I thought it might be teeth and she went back to sleep after 20 minutes of back patting until 6:15. She made some noises on and off so it seemed like a restless sleep. Any suggested nap/bedtimes times to try today?

I would think a 9.30am nap for 30 mins and then a longer nap around 1/1.30pm. DD could make 3.5 hours after a 30 min nap but you might need to experiment a bit. x

It does sound like teeth if the meds helped x

So now we've been capping the first nap from 930 to 10. Her second nap starts at 1:30 or 145 and she usually sleeps for about an hour and a half. Yesterday she was a bit of a wreck and ended up sleeping for almost two hours. Then we put her down for bed at 7:15 she fell asleep almost instantly.
The problem is now she seems to be waking earlier and earlier every day by about five minutes. This morning we are back to 5:45. Any ideas? Maybe wake-to-sleep? On nights when she has a quick night waking she seems to sleep longer. Or is it still schedule related? I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing ! :(

Thanks for the hugs! :) hugs to you too--a year of ew had to be so hard!
I had been doing 30 minute first nap, but she got some vaccinations last week and I think they are kicking in or maybe she has a little bug because she's been a wreck for the past few days. Low fever, very clingy, and lots of crying.mthis morning she woke at 5:45 and was beside herself most of the morning. I put her down early (9:15) and decided to just let her sleep. She is still going an hour and a half later.  Now I've probably sabotaged the rest of the day but she just seemed so out of sorts. Maybe I'll try for just a catnap later depending in how she seems.

Yes, best to just go with the flow for now if she is a bit off - I would have let her sleep this morning also!  APOP a nap later on if you need to, in order to get her through to BT, or you might find that she might take 2 full naps today if she is under the weather :)
