trouble with nap schedule - 8 months old
« on: May 21, 2014, 16:19:08 pm »
Hello,
My baby is almost 8 month old. and last month he has a weird naps schedule. First of all, its hard for him to fall asleep, especially at night. I put him to bed around 7pm, but he's asleep at 7:45pm - 8:45pm.
Besides that, he starts yawning 30 minutes after wakeup (maybe its not a sign of fatigue?)

The schedule is:
7:00am wakeup (or about 6:30am)
7:10am breastfeeding
8:30am- 10:30 nap (he is tired in the morning)
11:00am solids
12:00 breastfeeding
1pm -3:00pm nap
3:00pm solids
4:00pm breastfeeding
6:00pm -6:45 nap
7:00pm bath and breastfeeding
8:00pm breastfeeding
8:10pm night sleep (or sometimes around 9pm), wakes up every 45 minutes until midnight

I cant drop the last nap at 6pm because the baby is really tired. Maybe his night starts around 6pm (sometimes 5:20pm), and its not the third nap?

thanks

Hi,

Sleepy cues can become really unreliable at this age. The first thing that strikes me is that he has a vv short first A. I suspect that's because of a disturbed UT NT sleep.

That cat nap has to go. I would personally work on the first A and try to extend it by 10-15 mins every few days until the CN either falls of the end or you can do an EBT. Perhaps even start capping that CN to 30mins to get a reasonable BT. I would aim for a 12-hour day.

I think it might be an idea to read through some of the stickies about the 3-2 transition, routine examples and average A times. I hope this helps xx

chronological EASY samples, 7-9 months

All about the 3-2 transition- 5/6 months

Average A times- BOOKMARK ME!

Im still working on my first A, LO is 9 month old. Try to extend very, very slowly, 15 min every 3 days, my LO sometimes takes a week to extend 15 min. This way once you reach 3H you or even 2,5 you are going to be able to ditch cat nap and maybe bring BT 1H earlier.
