30 min waking after bedtime.
« on: June 04, 2014, 20:05:56 pm »
Hi. I have a 17 week DD who is finding it hard staying asleep at bedtime after 30mins. She wakes up, does not cry but is quite happy chatting to me. It then takes 1 hour of patting and shushing to get her back to sleep. She doesn't cry through any of it. Eventually after 1 hour she falls asleep in her crib. I have read on other threads that this could be down to over tiredness but wanted to see if other people agree as she doesn't wake up crying. We started 6 weeks ago putting her down awake as previous to that we had held her to sleep. She used to take a bottle before bedtime and we held her upright for 30 mins as she has reflux. Now she has a bottle maybe 1 hour before bedtime we don't need to hold her to go to sleep. Her reflux is also improving. She falls asleep brilliantly on her own in the crib but like I said wakes happy after 30mins. Once she's asleep that could be it until she wakes for feeding. I've just moved her awake time from the last nap to 2hr 30min from 2 hours.  She often does not have sleep cues so don't know if I'm keeping her awake too much or not enough. Depending on when her last nap was will depend on when she goes to sleep but she is usually in bed between 7-8pm. Any suggestions would be great.

Hi, 30 min wake ups are tough...often discomfort or OT but they tend to lead themselves to crying rather than just chilling out.
Can you post your day in EAS format so we can take a look for you?
Thanks
Zoe

We do not follow a strict schedule but it is roughly as follows.
Awake 7am
Eat 7.30
Nap 8.45 can be 30 mins but can also be max of 1hr 15
Then she's up again another 1hour 45. Depends on how much sleep she has got.
Nap for 30mins or over an hour and a half if I help her through the transitions. She usually eats very 3hours and is a sleep after 1hour 45.  If she has longer naps she onl had 3 with he last of the day being 30mins. If she can only do 30mins naps all day then she will often have more. She is usually awake by 5pm at the latest. She eats around 5 and then we try again at 7 before bed. Bedtime depends on when she last woke up but between 7-8pm. How long do you think I should wait after her lat nap before bedtime? Especially as she seems UT after waking 30mins Ito her bedtime?

Can you sneak into room before 30 mins and hold through the sleep jolts? Do you leave her to it if she wakes 30 mins after BT and is happy?
Normally an A time of 1.75-2 hours is right for 4 months but if your getting short naps you may want to bring 2nd nap of day forward abit so maybe try nap at 1.5 hours see if your missing the sleepy window?
If your naps are short all day is stick to no longer then 12 hour day too x
