CN not working for PM nap 13 month old
« on: June 17, 2014, 03:20:31 am »
Hi there we are in the 2-1 transition with our 13 month old. He was having a long AM but then refusing PM nap. So we swapped to short AM at 45min it worked for a couple of weeks and then he started refusing PM again so tried 30 min still refused and now down to 20min...and now he's refusing again???

WU: 7am
BF:7:15
SOLIDS: 8:15/30
SNACK: 10
CN:11:00 (.5hr)
E:12:00
BF: 2:00
S:try from 2:30 onwards and hardly ever works. He goes down after wind down looking like he's about to sleep but 5 mins later he's crying and carrying on.
4pm dinner
Bath
5:45/6pm bed

Sometimes he's refusing the AM nap in the last few days so I upped his A to 4hrs

He's awesome at tacking on so thank goodness for that.  ;)

He was sick last week hence the BF solids AND snack.

Hmm, I know when we did short am/ long pm with dd we moved the am nap quite early, like 930 I think. Although since he is making it til 11am you could try pushing it a little later eg 1130, uncapped, and have that as his one nap of the day, with ebt if needed.

Thanks for the reply.   I tried the earlier nap time in the AM but he never did it. Will try for 11:30 long Nap and EBT.  He also keeps just doing 1 45min cycle and either needing to be resettled and wakes up grumpy all the time.  Today after I put him down at 2:30 persevered with settling him. It took an hour but he finally went to sleep after LOTS of crying. I had to keep my hand on his chest. Is this a sign of SA???  Some days he's even crying now when we go in the room to wind down for naps. He's fine at bedtime.  Other times he hears our nap music starts sucking on his fingers and his cloth- put him down thinking he's going to sleep and then five minutes later he's either crying or playing. :-[

This morning he didn't wake until 7:20 so I bit the bullet and put him down at quarter to 12 with a snack before and he's still asleep now.  I don't think he fell asleep until 12.  He woke after 45min but self-settled straight away....YAY ;D !!!!  I'm guessing he's going to be up at 1:30ish.  Now I just need to work out what to do tomorrow.  Should I still be trying to do a mixture of 1 nap/2 nap days?  or stick with the 1 nap and gradually push him out?

It's a tricky one! I only have experience with dd who is Angel/textbook with pretty average sleep needs. I tried to drop her to one nap a few times but she got really ot so I went back to 2 naps. Finally around 15 months she went to 1 nap but it took a little while for it to lengthen so we had lots of ebts until it got closer to 2 hrs. I think it's the kind of thing you have to muddle through until they complete the transition which can take a while.

Thanks so much for the reply.  I thought my LO was Angel/Textbook too but lately hmmmmmm...lol.  anyway today was a perfect day.  I think he knows I'm talking about him.  Put him down at 10am after 3 hrs A time for a 30min catnap.  (I had to put a hand on his back for a little bit to get him to go to sleep/relax - I thought it wasn't going to happen)  He had 4 hrs A time after the CN and then down again at 2:30 for 1.5hrs sleep solid!!!  Yay!! He took a little bit longer to go to sleep tonight (maybe 7:30pm) but no big dramas...Feel a bit better now hoping for more perfect days.  He's just started walking by himself in the last couple of days so I'm hoping this has something to do with him being so tired today...

Sounds good! My dd is now 2 years 4 months, and I found that patch from just before 12 months until about 19 or 20 months the most challenging (so far!) meanwhile, 7mo DS who is touchy/spirited was horrendous as a newborn but getting easier as he gets older! I hope your boy's days continue to go well. It's so exciting to have a new skill like walking :-)

We've been successfully getting a CN at around 10:30 (30 mins) and then down at 1:30/2 for a nap (usually 1.5hrs)  BUT now he's waking up at 6am where he use to sleep until 7am???  We leave him there and sometimes he goes back to sleep after 1/2 hr or so it's hit or miss.  Just wondering what could be causing the earlier WU; is he getting too much sleep in the day now?  He's been waking after an hour from his afternoon nap and sometimes I can resettle him if it's before 4pm otherwise I just get him up.

WU: 6/6:30
BF:7am
SOLIDS: 8:30am
CN: 10:30
SNACK: 11:00
LUNCH: 12:00
NAP: 2pm (1-1.5hrs)
SNACK: 3:30/4pm
DINNER: 5:30
BF: 6:30
BT:7pm
