15 month old sleep issues
« on: June 26, 2014, 09:50:26 am »
My LO is continuing to wake up twice a night and will settle back down once I give her a bottle of water. Except she has this bottle in her mouth all night.  I've tried not giving her the bottle for the last few nights and I feel like it has worked to some extent, but when she wakes up at night there is no going back to sleep for hours.

I've tried putting her to sleep and naps without her bottle for three days now, and have had decent luck with it, but I'm wondering if I should continue to give her the bottle at NWs?  Or should I give her a paci? (She hasn't had the paci since she was 9mo old) or should I keep trying for longer without both?

I really want to try the paci again if she will take it

Thanks would appreciate any help.

If it was me I would continue without either the bottle or the paci and ride out the frustration and long NWs until she realises the 'new' format for sleeping and self settling.  At this age having a bottle or paci in her mouth for long periods can effect teeth and that's why I'd prefer to cut both and offer hugs instead because in my mind a few nights (or a week) of hellish nights are better than long term teeth issues. Also as you've already done it for a few nights you are probably half way there already, it would be a shame to go back on that now and those long NWs you've both already dealt with would have been for nothing.
I can see how tempting it is to offer the paci and get some sleep though. Hugs, only you can decide what to do, these are just my thoughts on it.
