Set naps and today's EASY HELPPP
« on: September 05, 2014, 14:26:15 pm »
Hi Friends,
I started set naps a little over a week ago and he's still not settled into it. Today he woke up at 6:30a with a lot of shuffling last night, to make for a pretty bad 10hr night. Nap time is supposed to be at 1pm. Do I really really not put him down before 15m before nap time, even if it means his first A is more than 6 hours???

Yesterday we did this schedule b/c I had to wake him up (finally) at 7:30 after a long crash night. I think the nap yesterday was UT? In any case, made for a bad night last night. :(

He's 20months and this is my target EASY:
7:30 WU
1-3+ S
7:45 in bed (he usu takes 30m to go to sleep)

I hope someone can help me today... I'm afraid to wait till 12:45, afraid it will make OT worse?
Amanda

I'm also trying the set nap but my lo also wakes at different times and this makes it hard. I personally wouldn't wait 6 hours unless he can normally handle that long of an a time. I would do 5-5.5 hrs A time msybe 12 for nap and then 7:30 bt.  Then hopefully he will sleep until 730 tomorrow and you can try again tomrrow for the 1 pm nap. That's what I've been doing. My lo is 14 mos.

Hi!

What did you do?

Personally I've never pushed too far in one go when setting the nap as R was always became OT quite easily. So I would always move the nap in 15 minute increments when trying to get to a new set time - so increase A time by 15mins and hold for 3-5days, increase by 15mins again and hold - rinse and repeat until you get to the time you want to be at.

That said for LOs who can handle OT peps do tend to jump to that time and deal with the OT as OT is ime inevitable when setting the nap.

Hi HenaV,
He wakes up anywhere from 5:45a to 7:30a (the target) bouncing from short OT night to looong OT crash night, so I don't even know what to do or where to start anymore. I kept him up 6+ hours yesterday for first A and he had a great nearly 3 hr nap (with a WU but he went back to it), but last night was 10.5. I just can't get a break it seems like.

If he woke up at nearly the same time ever, I would know what to do... pick a set nap schedule that works with that WU time, and then move it little by little, yes!

Today he woke up after an hour nap, crying. I put him to bed 'early' too, with a 5:20 first A. Which I think is reasonable for 20months after a 10.5 hr night.

I'm getting so frustrated and hopeless that I think I should just pick a schedule and do it, no matter what. Force it. It doesn't feel good or right to do that, but whatever I'm doing isn't working either.

'Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child,' says when traveling, stick to the schedule on local time. Right away. I'm wondering if that's the only thing that will work for my LO. I guess it won't hurt him??
