DS and Day care sleep
« on: September 01, 2014, 21:30:27 pm »
Hi all, so DS started day care about 2 weeks ago.  :'( I started him then as I go back to work tomorrow so I wanted to give him some time to get used to it. He's only going 2 days a week and our babysitter will have him 3 days a week watching him in our home.  Here's my concern. I need to leave the house by 6:15 to drop him off at her house in the AM (she has her own kids to get ready for school so she can't comehere). That means getting him up at 6am at the latest to get him dressed and in the car. This is going to be a substantial shift to his routine nevermind having to get up early.

He's always been an early riser but he will occasionally sleep til 6:30-6:45. I've started to shift his BT from 7:30 to 7 as he still naps about 1.45 to 2hrs a day and is pulling 10.5hr nights. I"m assuming his nap is too long but he loves it and I need him to get up early anyway.. Question is how to I ease this transition of having to wake him up before he's ready. I've never woken him for anything.

Second question is at daycare he's only sleeping 45min so a 6am wake up and a 45min nap is going to lead to some serious OT. He's not much a tacker but I guess an EBT is the only answer? Which also stinks since I wont get home till 5 and if he's got an ebt I wont see him much.

This stinks. My commute is 1hr30min that's why I have to leave so early. Have to be there by 8 school starts at 8:15.

I think you are right that ebt will be the way to combat ot until he is a bit older and able to handle a short nap or no nap days. As for waking him, does he sleep in a fairly dark room? I like to ease my kids into the day by flipping on the hall light and opening doors (well mainly for DD1 as she is like me and not a morning person at all, never has been!). They have white noise too so if they don't rouse I turn it down or off too.

No experience on waking in the morning as DS is an early riser too but I found that DS did short naps at nursery to start with and as he settled in he then started doing longer. He has 2 afternoons at grandparents and often did longer naps there as a catch up. EBT never worked for us which did cause major OT but I have found in the last couple of months that EBT is now much more effective after I introduced a gro-clock. DS is 23 months. HTH.

I have a very similar issue except dd is a little younger and she still take two naps for me at home, 2- 2 hr naps usually. She is a very high needs sleep baby. Anyway I wake her at 630 and she usually only get one 30-1 hr nap at school then I pick her up around 4-430 by the time we get home it's around 430-5. She likes her sleep so much I'll usually put her down when we get home and let her sleep until 6 and the we eat dinner and by 730 she's down for bed and will sleep all night. Do you think he could do that?  I still don't see her like I want but if I keep her up she is so fussy and clingy I can't make dinner and have to hold her the entire time then she doesn't eat well either bc she's so tired.

No he would never take a nap that late and then go to bed at a reasonable time. He's 27.5 months now. Yesterday he didn't sleep a wink at daycare. :/ I couldn't get him to bed earlier than 6:30 and he woke at 6 so not a great total day sleep but at least he did 11.5hrs at night. Today he took a 2hr nap normal and BT at 7 so we'll see what we can do for OT.
