Is set naps working? I can't tell.
« on: September 14, 2014, 04:23:50 am »
Hi friends,
My love is 20mos.

I'm trying set naps again. And well... we're in day 5 and I can tell the OT is building. Sometimes NW and I'm supposing OT EW (not waking up happy and less than 11 hr nights). He's napping 2 hrs, but waking up crying. And now for BT he's having more and more trouble getting to sleep. Is this to be expected... is this okay? Do I keep going?

This is my target schedule:
7:30 WU
12:50 in bed (not capped)
7:45 in bed. Takes him 30m to sleep lately.
So that's the opportunity for an 11hr 15m night, and he can nap 2+ hours.

The OT is building b/c he's waking up around 7 and not taking long enough (apparently) naps. So his first A is ending up around 6+. I wouldn't mind at all if he just didn't need to sleep to 7:30, and didn't need more than 2 hr naps, but it doesn't appear to be so.

What got me last time I did set naps is that +/- stuff. I CAN'T tell when that is needed. I shuffle him around the clock so much that he doesn't know which end is up and he gets UT/OT loops and it's a hot mess. So this time, I'm not wavering on the schedule more than 15m at BT.

Encouragement, hope, changes?

Thank you immensely.
Amanda

Hi I'm just wondering go if the nap is too late and causing your issues. Any chance if pulling it forward and setting it earlier?

Hi Hena,
Thank you for your reply!

I'm fairly certain that if his first A is less than 5.5, the nap will be UT. Though sometimes it's hard to tell if it's an OT or UT waking from the nap. 5.5 first A is the ideal, and I do think 6 is too much! So if he wakes before 7:30 it's pretty long.
