Question about HTTJ
« on: September 16, 2014, 18:16:19 pm »
Hi,
My DD is 11.5 weeks old. We are ona pretty good 3 hour EASY now. However, we are riddled with the age typical 45 min short napping issue. Often I am able to resettle with shh/pat but it takes anywhere between 10 and 30 min. I have tried W2S which did not work, it just shortened the nap even more. I would like to try HTTJ  to extend naps because I believe it would be easier on both of us if she did not wake fully. How do I do it? Do I pick her up when she first stirs? Do I just hold her i the crib? She is swaddled and uses a paci.

Hi suzanna,

The idea is to go in about 5 mins before the sleep cycle is coming to an end and apply gentle pressure on the arms and legs. This takes some figuring out with so many arms and legs and the two arms that you have! You then keep the light pressure on then when you feel the jolt either ssh very softly (whatever you usually use) and hope she doesn't wake fully. You should be able to very slowly start to release the pressure around 5-10 mins after you've felt the jolt and very quietly back out of the room. Hth. Let us know how it goes x

Ok I tried HTTJ for the 2nd nap today. It worked but took 8 jolts and 45 min to get through REM sleep and drop back into deep sleep.  :o Is this normal? Anyway, DD starts daycare on Monday  and there is no way in this world that the daycare lady could or would go through this to extend her sleep  :( So I will just have to come to terms with short naps until she matures a bit hopefully.

Well done! Every LO is different, I just told you what worked for mine for a little while. Daycare is difficult I'm afraid but at least you can do it when at home to catch her up. It will get better hun x
