No nap & NW
« on: October 06, 2014, 08:42:57 am »
Hi,
My daughter is 2y & 5m and has been dropping her nap for the past few weeks (unless we are in the car) she probably still needs it but she refuses & I've just had another baby. She wakes early at 6ish most days, what time should BT be after a NND?
We have started getting NW and last night she was awake from 3am till about 5.30!! Woke up really grumpy & upset.
Any suggestions would be appreciated x

Hello Hun,

First of all (HUGS) this must be really hard with a new baby too :( great timing eh!? Our DS dropped his nap around this age for a while and did the same thing, but he did actually go back to it for a weeks, so you never know. Having said that, I would probably try for super early bed time personally (SEBT) But first of all please can you tell me:

What time have you been doing BT  ???
What was her routine before  ???
Is she an independent sleeper  ???

Just trying to get a fuller picture Hun, and also figure out if she is high/average or low sleep needs as a rule.

Vicki.x.

Hi Vicki,
I know not good timing at all!
She is an independent sleeper (we got rid of the dummy about 2 months ago)
Her routine before was a 13 hour day so something like
Wake 6.30am (ish)
Nap 12.30/1 for about 1.5hr
Bed 7.30 (ish)

I've been doing bedtime at about 6.45/7 with no nap but looking back she's probable way overtired?
Now we're getting NW I've put her to bed at 6pm the last 2 nights?

Okay Sweetie, how have the 6 pm BT's been going  ???

I'd say she was pretty average sleep needs from her old routine, would you  ???

I think it may be worth trying for an 11 hour long day maximum. So if she's up at 6.30, 5.30 BT. I know from experience this seems completely bonkers! My Mum used to say "5.30!!! seriously!!!???" lol, but often he would sleep 13.5/14 hours at this time  :o

I can have a look for my thread that was running at the time, to check I'm remembering rightly, and maybe post it to see if it's helpful  :-\

That's really helpful thank you!
Yes I would say average sleep needs..I think :)

6pm bedtime is going well she goes straight to sleep with no getting out of bed so that's good, with the NW she's been getting up at about 7.30/8am ( obviously catching up) so go for a 6.30 bt?

The last 3 nights have been like this:
Night 1 woke at 3-5
Night 2 woke at 12-2
Night 3 woke at 10-12??

Any relivence in the times getting earlier?

Are you saying the NW are lasting 2 hours in total  ???

Any relivence in the times getting earlier?

Honestly, I don't know about that :/

If the NW are 2 hours, then she is still only getting 11 hours sleep with no nap, so IIWY I would be shooting for BT as early after 5.30 as you dare ;)

Hi Vicki,

Just an update..I've been putting her to bed by 6pm latest for the last week..no change in the NW ???
Last night she was awake from 11.30-2.30..3 hrs! Up at 6am.

So shall I put her down at 6pm tonight or 5.30? I worry she'll be hungry if I put her down too early did yours ever wake up hungry with such an early dinner? X
