Help with 3 year olds sleep
« on: October 06, 2014, 18:51:45 pm »
Hi, since the middle of august my daughters has changed, for weeks she was waking early any time between 5-5.45am + not going back to sleep + some night wakings. I put it down to maybe a regression + it seemed to get a bit better the beginning of september but then she started pre-school for 4 mornings + one afternoon + she seems to be really tired from that so her sleeps gone bad again.
Before she slept 6.30pm-6.30am + asleep within minutes. She started dropping her nap last Dec + think she dropped it completely by April.
Now she's awake at 5.45am every morning (she'll lie in bed till her clock says it's morn but won't go back to sleep. If I can aim to leave the room by 6pm she will be asleep in minutes + have 12 hrs but then when I try the nx night she has less sleep then back to 5.45am again. If she goes to bed just after 6pm it can take about 45mins for her to get to sleep. She will only nap in car possibly buggy if she was really tired + i have been giving her at least one nap a week. Saturday she had nearly 2 hrs then I put her to bed at 8pm + she slept 8.15pm - 6.45am so she must have really needed it.
I know she's overtired + she can have tired meltdowns by tea time but im not sure what to do.  Do you think it sounds like she needs naps again? X

She might temporarily need a nap to help cope with the extra tiredness of preschool...or a super early bedtime if she is the type to tack on.

She used to tack on but seems unable now :-( When she had dropped her naps if she had a really tiring day she would sleep more than 12 he's but now I'm lucky if she ever has 12hrs! I'm struggling to get her to bed any earlier than leaving the room just before 6pm. It only seems to work for one night anyway for some reason.x

I don't know the answer, but I feel for you with three year olds and their nap. So tricky!

Thanks. Last night she messed around loads at bedtime so didn't fall asleep till 6.30pm then woke at 5am :-( She never goes back to sleep when she wakes around then although will stay in her room till it says morning on her clock, just really annoying she's gna be even more tired today. Luckily I'm off all day so I'll have to go for a walk or drive after dinner to see if she'll nap.x

Tried Saturday + Sunday to get her to nap with no luck :-( Saturday night slept 11hrs with a brief night wake, Sunday night slept 12 hours with 2 night wakes then last night slept 11 hours with two night wakes (awake at 5.30am) I won't be able to get her to nap today as she's in preschool in morn + mother in law has her this afternoon. Keep thinking we're gna he back to normal when she sleeps 12 hrs but doesn't happen :-( Her sleeps been up + down for 9 weeks now!x
