17 month short nap
« on: October 21, 2014, 20:10:14 pm »
My almost 17 month old is taking short naps.  Our current routine:

6-630am Wake up
11:45am Nap
1pm Wake up (Only 1hr 20min or so!!!!)
7pm bed

On the very occasional day that she does sleep for 2+ hours she wakes up happy. Usually it is 1hr 20min and she wakes miserable. She sleeps through the night, falls asleep on her own, occasionally wakes but always puts herself back to sleep.  She has been short napping for awhile now but up until 2 weeks ago we could usually get her back to sleep after the 1hr 20min by patting her back and she would sleep again for 45 min or more.  Now she refuses to go back to sleep and just wakes crying and is very cranky!

Our routine is extremely consistent whether she is home with us or at daycare.  And she seems to nap the same regardless.  Any ideas on how to get over this one??

Any help is appreciated

Moving this over to toddler sleep, as your LO is over 12 mos.  :)

Yours is a very similar routine to ours (14mo) but I have been pushing the first A time to get closer to a 12:30 nap time where I can, and that does often result in a slightly longer nap - although never more than 1hr45 so far.

Thanks, I will see if we can get a positive result with trying that too. Tough though because the daycare are pretty strict on their nap times and won't really push past 12pm. I'll try at home though to see if we have success. Thanks for the idea!  She did just surprise us with a tooth, so I'm hoping it may get better once it's all the way through.

Well fingers crossed just a little extra A time will help extend the nap a bit - I find my son needs to be REALLY tired to resettle after 1hr20 as that is 2 full sleep cycles for him and has taken the edge right off his sleepiness, even if he is still tired.

If you just had a tooth, that could easily have been the reason for your daughter being disturbed at 1hr20 too - so you may find it just magically gets better  :) I hope so!
