10 week old- just checking if this is normal
« on: December 10, 2014, 21:23:21 pm »
Hi everyone,

My DS almost 10 weeks is mostly on a 3 hr EASY but the naps are VERY short and he always wakes at the 40-45 min mark.  Sometimes I am able to resettle but normally these nap extensions end up happening on me or it takes so long to get him back down we run into feed time. Normally the only thing that works to resettle is taking him out of the crib and rocking him. I have had no luck extending him in the crib.  I just want to make sure this is normal at this age. He is basically surviving on 4-5 45 min naps per day.  He is EBF and below is our EASY. We have this clustering period in the early evening since the 6 week growth spurt. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

E 7:30
A
S 8:30
E 10:30
A
S 11:45 or 12
E 1:30 or 2 (sometimes nap extension a makes this go long)
A
S 3:00 or 3:30
E 5 or 5:30
A Bath at 6 or 6:30
E 6:30 or 7 Quick feed right before bed
S Bed time 7 or 7:30

He then wakes at 11/12 for a feed and then around 4am.  Longest sleep stretch is usually this period before midnight. Usually that is a 4 or 5 hr stretch.

Sometimes if naps are all messed up bedtime will move earlier or later.

Thanks!

His first A seems short for his age - I guessing you're counting wake up as 7.30?  The average A is 1 hr 15-20, so you might be getting an UT nap, and then developing OT as the day goes on perhaps?  I would boost his A times gently and see if that helps him nap for longer, try adding 10 mins to his A time and see how he goes. Give him about three days to adjust to the new time.
