23 month old sleep getting worse
« on: November 26, 2014, 15:50:19 pm »
Hi Ladies,
I am back AGAIN!! Looking for all your help and advice.
Basically it all started 2 months ago with DD resisting her nap at usual time and having a bug. Then the time changed back 1 hr, then I feel we had a few weeks of a regression when she would be obviously tired at her usual time but jumping, shouting,  crying in crib for over an hour before finally falling asleep and only having a 30-45min nap as I would wake her up to keep bedtime on track. However, over the course of the last month things have gotten progressively worse! We are now getting nw's (randomly at any point through the night and anything from a bit of restless crying a few times to a full hr of mantra like crying last night). We're getting ew's (used to be 7.20 am and now usually waking anytime from 5.50 am and resettling to maybe 6.30 am) we actually got a 7.30 am WU this morning but think it was due to 1 hr nw last night. She is also getting her two top 2 yr molars but still only 1 section through on each side! Oh yes and nap time is now usually around 2.30 pm now with a struggle.

Our routine before this was like clockwork,  honestly you could set your watch by her.....
Wu- 7.20am
Nap- 2.50- 3.20/3.30 pm
Bt- 7.40 pm
Asleep within minutes and STTN

Now we are getting
Wu- if between 5.30/6.00 usually resettles until around 6.30/6.50 am
Nap- Pd at 2.00pm. Can fall asleep within minutes or not until anytime between 2.20- 2.45 pm for anywhere between 1 hr to 1 hr 30 min. I always wake by 4.00pm to save BT.
Bt- 7.40/8.00 depending on WU from nap.
Nw's- 2/3 at anytime within first 3/4 hrs of bed (usually resettles after a couple of minutes) again at anytime from 5.30/6.00 am mostly resettles until between 6.20/6.50ish.
Yesterday went like this
WU - 6.20 am
Nap- 2.00 - 4.00pm (I woke her)
BT - 8.00 pm
Nw's- 10.20 pm (roughly 5 min)
           11.10 pm ( roughly 10/15 min)
12.15 am ( mantra crying for at least 1 hr)

Today so far

Wu- 7.30 am (I woke her )
Nap- Pd 2.00 pm and asleep 2.30 pm - 3.45 pm
Bt- 7.45 pm

Any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Also she is coughing alot when in bed and has rash on cheeks and chin I assume teething related. Is all this teething related or do I need a routine change aswell?
Feeling very frustrated and fed up with all at this stage, it's being going on sooooo long.
If you have made it this far thanks for reading and any suggestions please???

Ok so we had a few nw's at 11.20 pm ( couple of mins crying but resettled)
2.40 am (roughly 10 min and resettled)

Today so far
Wu - 7.00 but dozed on and off until 7.30 am
Nap - Pd 2.10 pm,  asleep 2.25 - 3.20 pm
Bt - ??

Iam medicating before nap and BT for the last few days but not sure if it's all teething related or nap dropping also!
Really not sure what I should be doing here to help her. Any advice please and thank you.

Hi there! Hmm we have never had rashes or coughs with teeth tbh might be worth getting her checked out by the dr. Otherwise I would maybe want to move the nap earlier on days she ew as 2 pm seems quite late (unless she is lsn and needs high A time?). Thing is the nw etc could well be teeth or if she is coming down with something. Or an allergy? Have you fed her anything new or used new detergents/soaps?

Hi,  thanks for your reply. No I haven't fed her anything different or changed any detergent/soap but thinking back around this time last yr she had the same very red cheeks and little red patch on her chin when teething aswell! Her nappies are not great at the moment either. I know 1 section of each top 2 yrs molar is through so I was just assuming teething is to blame but also feel routine is not working anymore either!
She has been doing a 6.5 am A time for the past months with a 4/4.5 pm A time and never any trouble. I haven't tried nap any earlier than 6.5 am A due to work and childcare collection time. Even still when I put her down at her usual nap time it's deffinatly a good 20/30 min later before she's asleep.  Thats what made me think she need a 7 hr am A now and nap has gotten shorter too from 1.5 hr to 1 hr 15 min or even 1 hr!
Yesterday was actually a fantastic day and more importantly night.
Our routine was like this
WU - 7.30
Nap - 2.25 - 3.20
BT - 7.45
STTN

Today:

Wu - 7.45
Nap - 2.30 -??

Havent had a 12 hr night in a long time. Her average total sleep before this was 13 hrs a day so I would think shes average sleep needs and with the 1 hr nap and 12 hr night that gave us 13 hrs also. What do you think, could it be the teeth disturbing her for so long or do I need new A times also. Is this her way of nap dropping from 1-0 and should I cap nap today at 1 hr to see if tonight goes as well as last night or let her be? Sorry for all the questions,  just not really sure what I should be doing here .
Sooooo wish these molars would just be finished with!

Oh I know! DD3's all seem to be in but she is still drooling loads and poking her fingers in her mouth.

Hmm...see I am wondering if the nap got shorter after the long A time due to a bit of ot and if she might take an earlier nap to balance the day a bit better (but sometimes with other schedules there is not much one can do!). If she did a great night on a one hour nap I would totally cap for a bit (a week or so) and see if that helps. 1-0 probably won't happen for a while yet but good to keep it in mind.

Thanks so much for your help,  would you believe that after nearly 9 wks of sleep drama the minute I posted on here for help she's after pulling 2 nights of sttn at 11 hr 45 min and a 1hr 15 min nap, typical isn't it! I've been capping nap at 1.15 but should I cap at 1 hr and balance the day more evenly at 7 hr am A with 1 hr nap and 4 hr pm A and hope for 12 hr night instead of 15 min here and there Wu time, nap and BT?  Actually I think that idea is just me having an OCD moment..... I like things on an even keel!☺
would 15 min less nap time make a Hugh difference to her over all sleep I wonder?
Anyway the good news is we are back to 13 hrs overall sleep in 24 hrs last 2 days and long may it last. Bet I've just jinxed myself again....

Fx you didn't jinx yourself! I suppose for some kids 15 min might make a difference but tbh I am much less a clock watcher now so DD3's naps/bedtimes vary everyday.
