Really low sleep needs nearly 3 year old
« on: January 13, 2015, 06:49:47 am »
Hi all,

My son (3 in April) normally has been a good sleeper, albeit a very early riser. We seem to be In some kind of developmental shift as his sleep is totally out of whack. We're getting a lot of messing about at bedtime, last night he called me up hours after bedtime to take his socks off his hands and put them back on his feet, and then we're having early wake ups. Now he's pretty good and doesn't come out of his room until his grow clock says but I can hear him getting books off his shelf or talking to his toys as early as 5.20am.

Routine is as follows
WU 5.10-6am, grow clock sun up at 6.10am
Maybe Nap-he will take one on wkds around 1-2pm and is a grouch when we wake him 1.5hrs later, think he's ready to drop it. Mon-Fri he doesn't nap at childminder's really, maybe a small one.
Bath- 6.30pm
Bed-7pm

This routine was working fine in Dec, now seems all off.

He's fine in himself, but looks tired and I'm worried about the lack of sleep accumulating.

Any ideas?

So, he's having about 11hrs of sleep in every 24 then? That's not outside the realms of normal at his age (my DS was on 11hrs at age 2).

I would drop that weekend nap, and see how he goes. You may also need to push bedtime later, but it would be worth getting the nap gone before you change anything else.

He will look tired, a lot of kids do at that age I'm afraid. But we can't make them sleep more!
