9 month old not sleeping through the night
« on: February 06, 2015, 20:13:38 pm »
My nine month old won't sleep through the night.
I have tried pablum and she wakes up just as often and at the same time every night.
Her schedule is:
-up at 6:30/7am
-6 oz bottle of formula
-plays till 9am
-nap at 9am until 10/10:30am
-eats a 4 oz bottle after she wakes up from nap
-I offer toddler O's, but she just puts it in her mouth then pushes it out with her tongue.
-bath
- plays in jolly jumper for 30 minutes
- 12:00pm she eats 4 oz
-plays on floor till 1
-read a book or two.
-nap at 2 till 3/3:30 PM
-eats sweet potato, apple and chicken purée
-drinks 4 oz bottle
-plays on the floor till 4:30pm
-jolly jumps till 5 PM
-eats puréed spaghetti and sauce with formula. Eats about 1oz.
-bath time
-6 oz bottle(sometimes finishes)
-bedtime at 7pm(falls asleep few minutes after)
-wakes up at 10pm. Cries for 10-15 minutes, then I go feed her 4 oz bottle.
-tosses for 10 minutes, then falls asleep.
-wakes up at 3am and whines for 20 minutes, then cries for 5-10 minutes and won't sleep till she eats.
-sleeps till 6:30/7.

She has always been like this and she has two teeth now and getting two more.
A handful of times she has slept through the night.
I have a humidifier with lavender on, and a fuzzy blanket she sleeps with.

I can just out her down and she falls asleep without crying.

Hi there and welcome. Looking at your routine, I don't think the problem is with the feeds. Rather, her A times are very low for her age. Most 9 month olds would be doing closer to 3.5-4 hours. I also feel that she may bee getting a bit too much day sleep. When you move to an A more appropriate for her age, you will find that you cannot accommodate two long naps anymore, and then you could do one long, one short, depending on what works for you. What do you think?

I would start by stretching her A times- add 10-15 minutes every few days and hold to let her adjust. I hope this helps

I'm not sure what type of crying she's doing at night, but I wanted to add that BW and this site are not supportive of leaving a LO to cry for any period of time (unless she's only fussing and mantra crying), as Tracy believed it can break the bond of trust between a LO and her parents. And, as you've let her cry and then fed her every time, that has likely strengthened that prop. If you're going to feed her anyway, I'd feed her right away.
