So my LO has just started nursery and I need some advice about how to rearrange her schedule...

She is one next week (Yeay!) and would typically take 1.5hrs in The morning 9-10:30 and then another 1.5hrs in the afternoon 1:30-3. I have been using a three hour wake time which has worked well. She would go to bed between 6:30-7pm and wake 6:30-7am. Yes, she is a textbook baby!

However, nursery works on a 9-10 nap then lunch at 11:30  and nap 12-2. I collect her at 2pm four days a week. Currently she's only napping 1-2 (I guess as she's used to longer wake times and also not sleeping straight after food).  However, she then comes home grumpy and is wired by 5 so is in bed by 6. But now she's waking before 6am which is just too early!!!

So - do I become a "picky mum" and pick her up at 1 to sleep at home (which won't fit in with their schedule as all the children nap 12-2) or do I go with it, deal with the grumpiness and see how it goes? I know she'll be ready for 2-1 transition soon but she has always loved her sleep so I have assumed she'd be on the later end rather than ready now.

Any advice??

Thank you BW mummies!!

Hi I remember this so well from when my DS started nursery at 11 months. It became a bit of just go with the flow unfortunately and I think my DS moved to 1 nap by 13 months as he did better napping longer at 12.
It's so hard that first few months with sleep at nursery and a few times DS had 30 mins all day...I nearly had a panic attack as was also used to a text book baby for naps but short of staying at home there wasn't much I could do.
Does she go all week?

I know I'm not much help but just saying your not alone and it does get better.

Thank you for your reply. She goes four mornings a week (I pick her up at 2pm after the nap) and she is with me all day Wednesday - when she sleeps longer during the naps. Am trying to keep to same schedule so she's on one there and one at home but it's hard as I don't want to wake her if she needs to sleep!
Definitely OT on nursery days by tea time and wondering if that's prompting the early waking too. This morning she woke 'normal' time of 6:40 but other days has been more like 5:50am. Ouch.

Thanks for asking.

Ended up caving and picking her up at Noon and putting her to bed at home. She was napping well (1h30) in the morning but that meant there was no way she was ready for her afternoon nap 1h30 later...

It's working much better though I think it's a little bit of hassle for the nursery with me coming when no other parents come. It's only going to be for a short time until she transitions to 2-1. She will then have another 1h30-2h at home in the afternoon. And go to bed without being completely wired!

She's on holidays now so we will see how it goes in a couple of weeks...
