Going places with baby on EASY routine
« on: June 04, 2015, 13:20:01 pm »
I am trying to get my baby on EASY but I don't understand how you can keep the rountine and still lead a normal life like go to visit friends with your baby, etc. I mean situations when your baby has to sleep outside (in the stroller or even on a strange bed or a couch). How do you do that with EASY? If the baby gets used to falling asleep in her crib with her naptime ritual and you simply can't have that ritual when you are out.
Please advise.

I used to aim for the morning nap to be at home in his own bed/cot and then plan trips out and about around nap times after that. In the early months he was very portable but after a few months less so and I had to be more considerate to his needs. As we travelled most places in the car I would time the drive for him to have a CN in the car on the way out then do out visit (A time) and then S in the car on the way home again.  It did mean quite a lot of time sat in the car waiting for him to finish his CN but I felt it was worth while.
You could perhaps keep to one nap at home in the cot and the others in the stroller?  Try to time them right even if you are not providing a dark room etc.
Having a lovey is very useful, something you can take with you as a sleep cue, more so for older babies but some young babies can also attach to a lovey. I used muslin squares so we were never without one (or three!).

We did all first naps out in the buggy/car seat, as we had to go and see to my two horses. It was a godsend! Not only was I out and about every day, but we never got to the stage where DS refused to nap anywhere but at home.

A consistent time for a nap out of the house might be good. Even now at 7yo, DS likes to have a lively morning out somewhere and then the afternoon at home to chill out.
