9 month old night sleep is a mess
« on: June 01, 2015, 00:09:39 am »
My problem sleeper is at it again. He stirs and briefly wakes at the 40 minute mark for naps and night sleep but is not easily settled at night and keeps waking through morning. I know he is able to self settled because in our bed, I've seen him do it by sticking the soother back in his mouth. I'm going back to work next week and can't be on such broken sleep. Please keep in mind that this is a child who has never slept through the night or been remotely close in his 9 months of life.

Our schedule is as follows:

7:00 - wake
8:00 - cereal
9:00 - bottle
10:00 - nap
11:30 - wake
12:00 - lunch
2:00 - bottle
2:30 - nap
4:00 - wake
5:30 - dinner
6:30 - bath/bed time routine
7:00 - bottle and bed

He will wake at 12:00 and 5:00 to eat but gets up a handful of times in between as well. He is constantly rolling around in his sleep and I think it wakes him.

I feel like our schedule is great and I put such an effort into helping him sleep but get nowhere. Shh-pat and PUPD no longer work. Any advice would be much appreciated.

How do you settle him when he wakes at night?

I lay my hand on his chest or leg. Is he now dependant on touch? If I don't he just keeps rolling and moving around, getting himself more and more worked up.

I was wondering if the dummy/paci is a prop?

I've thought that too but he's recently learned to replica and still no difference. Tonight he fell asleep without me touching him and went on to resettle after the 30 minute wakeup. We will see how the night goes.

If you have become a prop, then it will be a case of making sure he always falls asleep without you touching him. Yes it will get worse before it gets better, but (I know this sounds obvious) there's no way of using a prop to wean a prop if you see what I mean.

The only other thing that seems like a possibility with all that squirming and rolling around is discomfort - could something he is eating be bothering him?
