When and how to wean the DF?
« on: May 24, 2015, 11:36:59 am »
Hi :)

Dd is 8.5mo and having some night waking issues, which I'm being helped with on the sleep board. But she wakes consistently before the DF (7pm bedtime, 10:30 DF).

At what age and how do I wean it? If I feed early, she has two feeds between "DF" and 7am :,(
If I feed at 10:30, she will sometimes go as late as 4:30 for her NF...but sometimes as early as 2 which means a second feed/ew.

Thanks!

I wouldn't wean a DF if you LO is still having other NFs, although this is the sort of age tracy recommended weaning it,

3 NFs at this age is quite a lot and likely to be UT, habit or a prop issue rather than genuine hunger. I expect when you sort your sleep issues out the NWs will lessen. Or it could be that she isn't taking enough in the day I suppose.

How many feeds is your DD having in the day and when? Is she eating much solid food yet?

Thanks :)

She feeds more than my sons did, for sure!

Our day (feed wise) looks like
Bf 7am
Solids 8am
Top up bf 9ish (given because she wants it, and will only do a short nap after that if hungry)
Bf 12
Solids 1ish
Bf 3:45/4 (after school pickup)
Solids 5ish
Bf 6:40 into bed
DF 10:30
Then one, sometimes 2 NF.

Solids she's not a big breakfast eater, but will eat decent amount (2-3tbls) I guess for lunch and dinner, plus some finger food.

:/ feels like she eats a lot, but still hungry in the night!

Daytime feeds look fine. Certainly enough.

Hi Immy Mummy and welcome to the forum. :)

There are some tips here on dropping the DF "How do I implement/drop the dreamfeed?"
Have a read through that FAQ and if you still need more specific advice then feel free to start your own post on the breastfeeding board (hit new topic at the top right of the page) and we will be happy to help further :)
