Naps problem with 10 weeks old
« on: June 16, 2015, 20:52:56 pm »
Hello! Mon son (10 weeks) have been on EASY schedule since he's 6 weeks. We've been doing great so far, his bedtime is between 7h30-8h pm and usually wake at 4h30-5h am, and wake up for the day at 7h30.
he used to have great naps, at least the 2 first one, of 2h, and 1.5 in the afternoon (as for the evening he would only sleep a little in the swing).
But since this week, he only naps for 40 minutes and i'm having a really hard time to shh/pat him to sleep. I don't want to fall in accidental parenting, and i'm a little lost in what i'm doing wrong.
 Here's an average day

8h30 wake up and feed (3 to 5 oz)
A: 9h to 9h30 (first yawn after 45 minutes awake)
S: 9h30 to 10h45 (wake up 2 times and didnt want to go back to sleep after 10h45)
E 11h 3oz
A 11h30 to 12h
S 12h to 13h (after 13h i tried to shh pat till 14h, but didnt sleep, he cried and was kicking his blanket and tried to unswaddle
E 14h  3oz
A 14h30 to 15h
S 15H to 16h (fussing and crying, kicking.. tried to shh pat foe 1h, but didnt sleep past 16h)
E 17h
A 17h30 to 18h
S 18H TO 19H swing
A BT routine (bath, feed 5oz, song, sleep)

Df at 22h
E 4h40 am
S 5H TO 7H30

I  think i've been able to read his sleep cues well for the pasts weeks..he yawns, would rub an eye later and if i wait too long, he would start fussing and be in my arms. I have no probleme to put him to sleep after his nap routine, i put ji, to bed, start his music and he would fall asleeo on his own, but after 40 minutes, 1h top, he wakes up with energy and fighting against going back to sleep.

What should i do? I started to do a lot of tummy time this week and is rarely in my arms (i want him to develop his motor skills), is he overtired? Or undertired? He's been overtired before but i was still able to put him back to sleep with shh/pat (but he would still wake at 40 minutes) but now it doesnt work :(

Thanks for any advice

Hi hun and welcome to the forums,
Don't worry that you are doing anything wrong. Short naps are part & parcel of the first few months. Your DS seems similar to my DD in that he likes a short first A and still does a good nap. But perhaps a slight push in A is necessary for the next naps? Since he is fighting sleep, it seems like he simply might not be tired enough at that point. I'm posting a few links for you to take a look at
Average A times- BOOKMARK ME!

Also, have you heard of the wonder weeks? These are developmental leaps that babies go through

Thank you for your answer. Seems like he wants to keep me close when he's falling asleep (he's holding my finger). I'll take a look at the wonder weeks book as you suggested, i'm sure it'll help me alot in understanding my sweet little boy :)
