Previous co-sleep 10 month old transition to crib... Ikes!

My sister has co slept with her 10. Month old DS and has been trying for a while to get him to sleep in his crib. He is starting to stand up in his crib and gets really upset when we put him back onto his back. He freaks out with the pu/pd method. And he thinks it's all a game until he gets cranky. she nurses him to sleep for naps and bedtime and really wants to transition him to sleeping on his own. What do you do in this situation? Thanks all!

I'm not a forum moderator but I have some experience with this. I kinda did my own method. I have a large air mattress that blows up level with the crib mattress and I put it by the crib. I would lay down on it beside the crib. Tell baby "lay head down" and pat her mattress. I did a lot of putting my arms through the rails to pat so I could stay laying down. After a while I was able to move my mattress away. And then I moved to a chair for the sleep lady shuffle. My baby was a little bit older at this point. I think 15 months but I probably started around 10 months. It took a long time! Plus we had illness and travel etc mixed in so those things made the process much longer.
