Switching to 3.5 hour easy - nap help?
« on: November 23, 2015, 08:01:08 am »
Hello!
Just would appreciate some ideas about 3.5 hour easy from those that have done it. At the moment we follow the 'standard' 3 hour easy from the book with some variation if we are out etc nap times might be different but generally amount the the same by the end of the day.

I think she is ready for 3.5 hour easy (12 weeks old) as she's not really hungry at the 3 hour mark. But her awake time is only 1-1:30 hours. So maybe we should do EASAEAS?

Anyway - even if I move to 3.5 in a few weeks we are looking at something like this:
E: 7.00/7:30wake up and feed
A: 1hr 30 - 1hr 45
S: 8:30/8:45
Y: your choice
E: 10.30
A: 1hr 30 - 1hr 45
S: 12/12:15
Y: your choice
E: 2.00
A: 1hr 30 - 1hr 45
S: 3:30/3:45
Y: your choice
E: 5.30 feed
A: 1hr 30 - 1hr 45
E: 7.00 (top up)
S: 7.00/7.30pm bed.

So does this mean she takes 3 2hour naps? Do they need the extra sleep as they get older? Or should she wake up before her E? She's a great napper most of the time so will easily do 2 hours I would think. It just seems like a lot?

Thanks for any help

Xx

Hi Honey! We faced the same issue when my DS was 12 weeks and we went cold turkey to 3.5h EASY - which I think wasn't the best idea!
If you LO is not ready for longer A you can go for a routine like below:
E: 7.00
A: 1hr 30 (7-8:30)
S: 8:30 till 10:00
A: 10:00-10:30
E: 10.30
A: till 11:30
S: 11:30 till 1:00pm
A: 1:00pm till 2pm
E: 2.00pm
A: till 2:30pm
2:30-4:00pm
E: 5:00/5:30pm
S: 5:30-6pm
E: 7.00 (top up)
S: 7.00/7.30pm bed.

In general she shouldn't be sleeping more overall which is tricky with nap transitioning as even with longer A time between naps, sometimes total A during day seems to be less as you eliminated nap!  What  is working with transitions like that is going from 3xfull naps and 1xcatnap to 2xfull naps and 2xcatnap, and than eliminate 1 catnap slowly so you are finally at 2xnaps and 1xcatnap.

Thank you so much! She is finding it a little hard to realize she doesn't get fed as soon as she wakes up! Lol but that's only a good think I think.

She seems to be staying awake longer now she's doing 1hr 45 so hopefully 3.5 not too long away

Thanks again! X
