8.5mo, 2nd nap only 45mins.
« on: January 21, 2016, 22:19:13 pm »
I'm having a hard time getting lo back to sleep for her 2nd nap. She wakes at 45 min everytime. Sometimes she will fall back asleep by herself, sometimes I go in and she will, but mostly, she screams for a long while and never falls back asleep with me in there. It's been going on for about 3 weeks now. It makes her grumpy and her bedtime starts too early. She sttn and her first nap is 1:15-1:30 long. Any advice?

It sounds like she may be ready for a touch more A time before that nap. Can you post her WU and nap times and I'll have a look?

Wakeup- 7:15-7:30
1st nap- 10:30-10:45, lasting 1:15 -1:30
2nd nap - 3-3:15hrs after wakeup from 2nd, usually 3-3:15.
Basically she is at 3-3:30hrs awake time.

Her nap before this started would be 1:30 long. I will try pushing it back to see if it helps.

I would try pushing it back for a few days to see if that help. If there's no improvement, we can look at trying to get that second nap earlier in the day which can sometimes help it lengthen or pushing BT back which can also help lengthen naps.

In BWSAYP, Tracy says that it's pretty normal for LOs between 6-9 months to have one long nap and one short nap. I know my DD sure did!

When do you do BT after a short pm nap?

So, another dilemma. I was gone for 2 days, daddy was in charge. She only took 1 nap both days and when I came back, so 3 days now. Is it possible she is ready to transition? I thought it was way too early!

It's not unheard of but that is quite young for only one nap. I don't think she'd be able to sustain it long term without some major OT setting in.

We're still at 1 nap. She seems to be doing great. I'm a little surprised, I thought I had more time!

It is young, but if she's getting enough sleep overall and its not messing up her nights, then I'd go with it. She may still want a second nap every 2 or 3 days - lots of LOs do when they transition.
