Won't take morning bottle
« on: April 26, 2016, 13:22:46 pm »
I am really struggling to get my DD is take her first morning bottle.  It seems no matter how many hours are between her NF and her morning bottle she still never takes more than 2-3oz (a full bottle for her is about 6oz).  She won't eat no matter what unless there is 4hrs between feeds so I make sure to give her at least that space but it doesn't make a difference.

Today:
NF 5:15am - 5oz
WU 8am
A
E 9:15am - 3oz

Yesterday:
NF 1:15 - 6oz
WU 6:45am
E 7am - 3oz

Previous day:
NF 12:30am - 3oz
NF 5am - 3oz
WU 7am
A
E 9am - 3oz

It also makes it difficult because our day doesn't end up going EAS it always ends up AES because she won't eat when she wakes and needs at least 4hrs between feeds.  I take her into her bedroom to feed her so it is dark and quiet with as little distraction as possible.

Not sure why she won't eat in the morning  ??? ???

When DS1 did this we cut down amounts on DF and NF, she's maybe just full up?

Ida has only started finishing hers since she dropped her NF. She does have a DF though.

How long after waking is she eating? I know with DS it didn't matter how long his last feed was, he never wanted to eat right after waking up. Maybe try reducing the last night feed?

She has to go at least 4hrs between feeds before she'll eat anything.  So if her NF wasn't until say 5am I wouldn't feed her until 9am even if she woke at 7.

The thing is, lately she's been taking most of her NF at 1/1:30am and if she wakes at 7am she's going 6+ hours without a feed...surely she should be hungry by then!?

She definitely needs a NF as she doesn't have a DF but maybe I'll try reducing it to 4oz?

I'd try reducing it, DS2 won't generally eat before 7.45/8am especially if his is 2am. I'm giving it a couple more weeks then reducing it an oz etc x

I seem to remember you were questioning reflux a while back - is that still an issue? Neither of my refluxers fed well first thing in the morning, even without a nightfeed. Their feeds gradually increased in size through the day.

I would look at the overall amount - if she is taking enough through the 24 hours it's not really a problem to have one or two smaller feeds. Is she having a good first nap or waking early because she's hungry?

We did start reflux meds, I should mention however that it is a very mild case.  I think her overall amount is fine, she takes roughly 26oz in a day but really anywhere between 25-30.  Her growth is fine and she's maintaining her curve.  She takes a good morning nap, it is the most consistent nap/best nap usually.
