3.5hr EASY at 13 weeks?
« on: August 28, 2019, 12:05:28 pm »
My DD is 13weeks tomorrow and had been on a 3hr EASY (she is exclusively breastfed). We're in the middle of Leap 3 so her naps have been a bit off, although today they are better (slept 1.5hrs first thing, and is currently nearly an hour into second nap)

The last couple of weeks she has been incredibly fussy to feed during the day - she will take a very small feed, then scream at me and refuse to latch. As soon as I remove her from the breast she's happy as anything. My DS had silent reflux, but I don't think she's displaying the signs for that - she's happy lying on her back soon after a feed and she's such a happy baby as long as I'm not trying to feed her! There is absolutely nothing wrong with my supply. I've tried doing breast compressions and not doing them, and also tried different positions.

I'm seeing a lactation expert on Friday to check there is nothing wrong with my technique, but I'm beginning to wonder if really she's just not hungry after 3hours and that it might be better extending it to 3.5hrs. Is she too young for that? The one thing that's making me hesitate is that she was on the 40th percentile but dropped to the 23rd percentile and seems to be sitting around that now - the health visitors weren't concerned and said that might just be where she's supposed to be. It's making me cautious though as I don't want her to not be getting enough milk by infrequent feeds, but at the moment I feel like every 3 hours she just isn't taking much at all.

Thanks for all your help

She could just be an efficient feeder, my DS2 only fed for a couple of minutes and was done, which was in stark contrast to his brother who'd feed for 40+ mins...as long as she's giving you plenty of wet nappies and happy I'd listen to her communication... Books and websites do have a great way of making us think we have to do it xyz way and really it's not going to change her life which ever way you go.

Whilst I think she is an efficient feeder (she's always taken ~5mins per side), she's now only staying on for about 1 minute, max 2min, during the day and then screams at me and refuses to latch, so I'm not sure she is getting enough at each feed - I feel like she's snacking and then getting frustrated at me for not listening to her.
