Variations of Pat/Shhhh?
« on: August 30, 2005, 01:49:30 am »
I really want to try the pat/shhh method with my 1 month old son.  But, the front rail on his crib does not lower and so it gives me a HUGE back ache (and hurts my c-section incision) to lean over his crib rail for 10 minutes while patting/shhhing him.  Any suggestions on how to modify this?  I thought of maybe doing it on the floor or while holding him, but I don't know if that might be too stimulating.
Thank you so much!

I placed two mattresses on the highest setting in her crib and sat on a chair when I did this.  Or can you fit your hand through the railings?  Hope you get more suggestions.

Hi,

We had to modify the pat / shush method as our LO has reflux so the patting really upsets him. We found that sometimes just the shush sound would sooth him and once he got used to the sound we could do it by just sitting next to the crib (and not necessarily leaning over him the whole time).

I'm not sure if this is correct though but it seems to help him.
