Making the room dark
« on: August 30, 2005, 05:12:42 am »
Hi all

We are moving into a rental property at the end of this week while we build our new house (YAY!!)  Problem is the bedrooms have just got really light vertical blind on the windows.  Dd has always had blockout curtains and so her room is really dark even in the middle of the day.  Being a rental we cant change the blinds or hang curtains.  I was wondering if any of you have some bright ideas on how to make the room dark without breaking our rental agreement (ie no permanant things like hooks, no sticky on walls etc)
Thanks for your help :D  :D

black cardboard & double sided velcro sticky dots ( you can buy them in a newsagent) & you can put them up or take them off as you like.
I have two big ones for the windows in ds#1 room as his curtains are ok, but not block out, I will do the same for #2 if/when it becomes an issue.

Any residual sticky stuff from the dots on the window/windo edge, will wash off with metholated spirit

Thanks ladies, they were both ideas I was going to try :D .  With the alfoil does it matter which side faces in or out?  For some reason I feel like if i put it the wrong way it will make the room really hot in the warmer weather   .

i love the idea of the velcro dots!!!  I think I will be making a trip to Bunnings before the end of the week :D

Hi Janelle

I have foil on Khyan's room and it's really great to block out the sunlight but the problem that I'm finding is that I hate not being able to open the windows or let in any sunlight during the day  :?

The velcro dots sound great ! I think we may do something like that here too.

Yay it's exciting when building !
