Really, When Do They Start Sleeping Through?

I am talking about not hearing from them whole night, night after night.

When are you able to go to sleep without a fear of being awaken at night? When do you stop remembering the last time you had to go in during the night?

Adrian started sleeping in 12 hours streches at 5.5 months, which was great for his age. But, every 7-10 days, he'd have a 2-3 nights with wake ups. And it's still like that. I'm not talking here about developmental waking periods, ear infections and colds. Granted, he is teething, but for how long?

I'm really curious to know what are other people experiences?

Good question...hmmm...Tyler didn't drop his night feeds until 7 mo, so that's when he started to sleep for a 12 hr stretch. But we still heard from him several times during the night for binky calls, even after he could plug himself. I think it was around 14 or 15 mo that he totally stopped waking during the night, but he still has a night every couple of weeks where he wakes crying once or twice (I'm assuming from a bad dream) but settles within a few seconds (often before we even get in there). It helps a lot that we've never used a monitor at night because his room is right next to ours, so he may actually wake more often and settle himself so quickly that we don't even hear him. Does that make sense?

Maya dropped her last night feed at 3.5mos and started sleeping through 8pm to 6-7am.  We also do not use a monitor, but I know she wakes and resettles several times a night because occasionally I have to share a room with her.  We've had a couple spells here and there where we've had to get up in the middle of the night (6mos growth spurt, travelling, bout of 5am wake-ups), but by and large, once she's down for the night, we don't hear from her.  About once a week, she'll cry out in her sleep, but I can't remember the last time we had to go in there.  She just turned 9mos last week.

Hmmm, at 2.5 my ds still wakes on and off during the week.  He's been BW'd from the start, slept through the night from 3mths-10mths and then we've had some sort of waking or other since then.

One day I'm hoping I can get a good nights sleep let along a whole week - it's not the baby that's making me tired LOL.

When they're teenagers and we have to drag them out of bed at noon   :lol: !
At least according to my sister in law whose 8 year old still occasionally wakes her up at night because of a bad dream or bed wetting and whose 14 year old will sleep for 14 hours straight!

Yes, I was afraid that's the answer I was going to get.

Just for the record, I wasn't a great sleeper either, and I'm still not. My mom says that I stopped napping totally before I was two years old.   :shock:

Myles started sleeping through at 6 months, but there have been the little blips of illnesses, teething, etc..  The last couple months though he wakes at least every couple of nights wanting a drink of water, so it is pretty quick and easy.

But I am thinking the above poster is right about when they are teenagers :roll: !

I'm with Nikki on this one I still get woken by Aiden (26mo)  even if I don't have to go to him he wakes & talks almost every night... got to love hearing "choo choo crash" or "play with Josh" in the middle of the night. Some nights I have to go to him others I don't.
Was chatting to a friend today...about how I can feed Liam (5mo) to sleep & he will sleep 10 hours yet Aiden at 5 months wouldn't sleep more than 3 even though he went off independently... different babies do it at different times.
& with a teenage step daughter... they still wake you at night - with the TV or microwave bipping!!!

Finn woke regularly from 0-10 months old  :roll: i'm talking 6 nightwakings per night.  He's now been sleeping through (10-11 hours per night) for almost three months pretty much consistently (we did move in that time which naturally disrupted his routine). 

So that's my experience - 10 months until I got more than two hours uninterrupted sleep at night  :shock:

It is so great reading these postings as it gets so frustrating listening to people gloat about "their baby sleeping through the night at 8 weeks (sometimes even earlier)".  Usually the next thing they tell me is that they did Baby Wise.  My ds is 4.5 months and sleeps from 8pm-6am with 3-4 wakings mainly for his pacifier.  He can go without a feeding from 7:30PM to about 7AM.  We were thinking that we were "behind" because we still have to get up a few times each night to put his pacifier back in.

My little one was sleeping through the night ( i.e. not needing a feed) from 10 weeks, then we had about 2 months of sleeping right through i.e. no wake ups at all. Now 5 times a weel she will wake up one a twice a night, needing the pacifier ( it literally takes her two minutes to fall back asleep). Hoping once the teething, rolling over etc....... stops we will go back to sleeping through.
