how long is awake time for 7 1/2 month old?
« on: January 08, 2006, 16:04:54 pm »
My 7 1/2 month old has been taking shorter naps. her awake time is 2.25 hrs. then down for a nap. Some naps now are 30 min....
should I be extending her awake time until she shows me she is tired? or just extend it to a specific time?? what is the norm for this age. I want her to get more tired so she can take longer naps. when she is real tired she naps for 1.5 hours so I know she can do it. any help would be great.

You've got it right, extend wake time. Mine is a month older than yours and she's up to almost 3.5 hours. 30 min naps at this age usually means it's time to tweak wake time. At 7.5 months, my lo was taking a few leaps in wake time...she went from like 2.25 hours to 2.75 practically overnight! Not saying this is what's happening with yours...but I think extending wake time will help!

I agree with Aarismom (she always beats me to the punch with great advice  )

Depending on your babies temperment you may need to increase wake time more gradually.  I believe Angel and textbook babies can handle a 15 min adjustment, whereas you may have to be more gradual with spirited, touchy, or grumpy babies, trying 5 minute increments.

good luck, let us know how it goes.

Yup, I'd agree, more A time.

Just increase it gradually like Traci said, not in a great lump all of a sudden, b/c then you risk an overtired lo.

There is no 'specific time' for A time. Each lo is different, so you have to gradually increase A time in increments until you get it right. This might take a few days.

Good luck :)
Caroline :)
