getting 2 month old to sleep at night and stay asleep!!!
« on: January 03, 2006, 15:20:37 pm »
hi,
my baby boy is 2 months old and for the last 2 weeks won't settle between 7 and 11pm.
he is a big boy 6.25kg at 8 weeks. His day time sleep is fine (1 hour in the am, about 2hrs lunch time and about 1 hour in the afternoon) although he sometimes fusses at these times aswell!! H

He falls asleep perfectly at 7pm after his routines feed at 5, bath at 6 and top up feed 6:30, but wakes within an hour and then cries on and off till he eventually goes to sleep between 10 and 11. He then wakes every 3 hours at night!! (no sign of a longer stretch of sleep yet!!!! CANT WAIT FOR THAT!! I am breastfeeding, tried a formula bottle at 6:30pm but he is now not taking the bottle well.... (takes an hour to give him about 60ml).... At first i though he was hungry as he falls asleep at 7ish even if he hasn't feed enough, but when he wakes he won't take the boob and seems over tired and grumpy!
i have tried the sshhhhhhhhh method, sometimes works but most times i have to pick him up!!!
any suggestions?
Thanks-

Can you outline your routine?
What time he wakes, feeds, awake time, what you do to wind him down, how you get him to sleep etc?

hi..

Basically, the following times

wake 7:30am feed, nappy change

8:30-9amhe gets sleepy, i hold him close and put him in his cot. (this sleep he usually drifts off on his own) and sleeps for an hour, sometimes a little more.
10am feed, nappy and clothes change,
11-11:30 he gets tired, same as above although this time he usually wakes within an hour and doens't like sleeping in his cot, i then try re-settle him in his cot. Sometimes he sleeps for 2 hours easily, and sometimes fusses on and off!!
depending how he slept, i either feed at about 12:30 or around 2-2/:30.
3:30- sleep again,
5:00- feed
6:00-bath
7:00-sleep (falls asleep easily while feeding, i wait for him to stop sucking- burp him to arose him a little, and put him down, he sleeps for a while and then wakes within the hour when the process of fussing start will about 10 11ish

hope i have given you enough detail,

thanks, jules
