Nursing strike or wanting to drop to 3 feeds??
« on: February 04, 2006, 09:07:55 am »
Since about 4mo Liam has been a distracted feeder at best, but the first & last day feed & often a night one were pretty good, so I never worried too much about the 2 day ones & often offered 3 if I could once I started solids BUT now he has decided night feeds are not needed (night waking is though ::)... but that is teething/cold related I think)

Anyway he had pretty much rejected my right side a month or so ago, so I just pumped 1/day to add to solids (150-200mls), so I didn't become too lopsided  ;)...but this last week, it has been a hard slog, he has had short feeds in the am & pm & pretty much refused in the middle of the day... He has also cut back on solids too, so maybe it is his cold.

I'm not sure whether to just pump & give it in a sippy (willingly takes from that) or to keep trying to get him to bf. I was planning that the 10.30/11 am bf became a cup feed anyway (he won't feed when out & we are often at toddler activities then), he iss about 11kg (about 23.5lb) & very tall & when I express I get about 250mls (8+ oz) in 10mins - from one side (after very short day feeds) so I 'm guessing when he does feed he is getting plenty as my breasts do stop feeling sore, so maybe this is his way of wanting to drop to 3 feeds???

If he's taking 8 oz at a time, then I would think 3 good feeds would be fine.

Kate, I am completely with you about worrying Jacob is getting enough. He went from about five feeds a day to most days just three very quickly in my opinion. In fact I think that if I didn't offer he wouldn't ask at the minute, he is just so distracted and busy! I did a yield the other day and got about 6oz so I figure if he is getting that three times a day then that must be enough, I do sometimes give it in a sippy if I think he hasn't had enough or I may offer an extra nurse.
I doesn't sound like a strike to me it sounds like Jacob is at the moment, Liam's only about 4weeks younger isn't he?
