Hi there. My DS is 10 weeks old. He was born 3 weeks early by c-section. Although he wasn't classed as premature he definitely would have been inside of me for that bit longer. He did nothing but sleep for the first few weeks and I couldn't wake him to feed frequently during the day. He has never fed under 3.5 hours and now is at 4 hours most days. My problem is that he still likes to sleep alot. EASY is nearly impossible as he feeds very quick (10 mins) and goes 4 hours between feeds. So it can be like this Eat 10 mins. Activity 40. 2 hours sleep. Activity because he won't feed before he is ready. Then I have to put him down straight after feed because he is tired from activity. I do not let him fall asleep on boob and will put him down awake. He can fall asleep both on full and less full tummy. Today was better for EASY because he fed 3 hourly (never before)  but somedays it is impossible. Anyone else have this problem. Suggestions welcome. I am hoping it will balance out as he can stay up longer.

Cheers J

I can understand your worry.  As new moms, we always worry whether or not baby is eating enough.  Is he gaining weight?  Does he feed in the night?  I think 3.5 hrs is fine.  He will eventually be able to stay awake longer, so enjoy the sleep while it lasts  ;).  A baby won't starve himself (barring no medical conditions), so I'd trust that he's eating what he needs.  Have you expressed your concerns with his doctor?  What does your typical day look like?

Thanks for your reply. Weight gain very good. Pooping is the problem at night rather than needing lots of feeds. EASY is only on somedays because it can be EASAES. I guess when he starts being awake more the EASY should hopefully fall into place. He has a big sleep of about 2 hours in the morning. Then does a small sleep of around 1 hour then another big one of about 2hours. He goes to sleep at 7:30. Night feeds are around 1pm and it seems he is dropping the 3 and 5am feeds but I have to change him because of the poop. Doctors and hv believe in demand feeding and are happy DS is doing well
