How much milk do I need to express for one full feed?
« on: March 23, 2006, 22:40:22 pm »
Hi, I want my mother-in-law to babysit my 12 week old this weekend for a few hours, and I have so far expressed 120ml. How much should I need in total for one feed? I've been told for formula it's about 180ml(?) but am assuming breast milk will be different.

Thanks...

Hmm, I havnt any experience in this but I'd say it would be roughly around the same as formula. Its very hard to gauge as obv. we dont know exactly how much milk your LO is taking from the breast but I'd say pump 180ml if that the recommened amount for formula and a bit more just incase LO is extra hungry or some gets spilt, maybe 200ml extra? I'd be interested to hear what others think  :)

I would say you should aim to keep the quantities the same as for formula feeding. However I would  recommend you have one whole bottle spare, if you can, for the unexpected emergency - delayed journey, even grandma spilling a bottle (no offence grandma).
