Reusing formula in a sippy cup?
« on: March 30, 2006, 22:09:06 pm »
I know that you should not save and reuse formula in a bottle after lo has drank from it, but what about in a sippy cup?  DS is learning to use a cup and I put about an ounce of formula in it at lunch time and he drinks a little with my help.  Then at our dinner he sits in his high chair and has his sippy again with some finger foods (not that he really eats anything).  Is it ok to keep the formula from lunch in his sippy and put it in the fridge until dinner? the sippy has a valve in it.

No, you can't reuse old formula in any drinking vessel. It's b/c the milk is the perfect breeding ground for all sorts of nasty bacteria, mainly obtained from the baby's saliva. Once the lo has sipped from it, it shouldn't be reused after about 1/2 an hour.

I usually make a fresh couple of oz to put in the cup for him.

When Andrew was about 7 mos old or so, I would pour his "lunch" formula into a sippy and he would drink it while he was being fed his solids, then I would take the rest (3 ozs or so from an 8 oz bottle) and he would have it in his bottle right after.

Now that I think of it, maybe I shouldn't have done so, but sometimes he would drink all of it from the sippy, other times only 1/2.  And we used it right away.....
