How often should he feed?

My son is 2 1/2 months old and eats every 2 hours. During the day you can set your watch my his stomach. Is this "normal"? He goes a wee bit longer at night but during the day no way unless we are driving in the car or walking with the stroller.

jezni,
He should be able to go 3 hours.  How long is his awake time?  Can you post his daily routine and night patterns so we can see where we can tweak it a litte?

Actually a cycle of every 2- 2.5 hours isn't that uncommon. My LO wasn't going much more than 2.5 hours at that age. You could certainly have a go a shifting it around but breastmilk is digested very quickly so it's not always easy. Are there ways you can extend his feeds - offer the second side or go back to offering the first side? Make sure he's always the one to break off naturally. I found that as my LO got older the intervals naturally started to stretch but I'm sure other people will have useful suggestions if you are concerned and want to try and change it. Bear in mind your breasts are used to producing every 2 hours so it may take them some time to adjust to a new schedule of demand too.

It was right around 2.5 months that my son started shifting his 2 hour feeds to a little longer.  I did this by reading BW.  I just had other ppl hold him and tried to extend his naps a bit.  But he was ready for the shift and I was much better at reading his cues after reading BW.  But I believe your lo will let you know when they are ready.  A little encouragement from mama can't hurt either.

The good news is, when they start extended day time feeds, generally the night feeds start to extend even more!   :)

I dont worry my LO didnt go every three hours until he was around 3.5months old. If he is still every two hours in a few weeks and is showing no signs of changing his pattern then you might want to start looking at why. Until then just follow him, most babies gradually stretch the times between feeds themselves. I know when my DS did it took me a while to notice that he was, hopefully your LO will start to soon. Try not to compare yourself to other esp. those who are bottle feeding. Remember that those women that say there babies are doing this and that are probally exaggerating, there are many different versions of normal  :)
