Side sleeping

How necessary is it to switch sides when side sleeping? My DD can only fall asleep on her right side, nothing else seems to make her fall asleep.

If only one side, she can develop a flat spot on that side of her head.  Can you turn her at some point?

I would turn ds around in the crib.  He falls asleep on his left side - after his DF I put him on his right side, but where his feet were, I put his head - he is still looking at the same thing if he opens his eyes, but he is on a different side.  He usually stays there.   :)    Of course this was before we had to elevate the mattress - but now he is used to sleeping on either side.   ;D
