Hi
Can I ask you for more information?
How often does she feed at the moment?
Does she have any experience of using a bottle?
What about a sippy cup/beaker?
What are your reasons for wanting to introduce a bottle? Do you want to use breastmilk in the bottle or formula?

Thanks

I think your first issue is to make sure she drinks from something other than you. At 9 months you may want to think about going straight to a cup rather than introduce bottles (as not long after 12 months it's recommended to try and wean off bottles anyway). I would work on finding a cup she likes and drinks enough of. You could start with water in it or try expressed breastmilk. I would also talk to your doctor because some are happy for babies at 9 months to start with whole cow's milk. In the UK we are recommended to wait until 12 months.

Weaning is always best when done slowly - think weeks not days. This is for several reasons: firstly, nursing is not just about milk it's a source of comfort and security for your dd. If it's removed abruptly this could be upsetting for her or worse. Secondly, it's best for your health not to give up quickly so your breasts have time to adjust and you don't risk an infection like mastitis which can be very serious. It may also take her a little time to adjust to new routines or a new way of drinking.

I would suggest you speak to your doctor or health visitor for advice. You could also post on the bottle-feeding board as I would imagine that some mums there have done what you want to do. On this board we're usually the ones still breastfeeding!
