B/feeding and starting solids
« on: May 23, 2006, 10:25:22 am »
Hi

My son is over 6 mnths and started solids a few weeks ago. He just seems to be so hungry for solids and less and less interested in the breast. I went from feeding 8 times a day (before solids) to 5 times a day now (within 2 weeks). And I had a lot of problems with my left side as he wasn't that interested in it and I had to struggle to get him to feed off it, now that I am feeding solids as well he is even less interested in that side. I really don't want to do one sided feeding as I have big boobs and the milk makes them very heavy and dont want to be lop sided. So he is feeding 4 hourly in the day now and one early morning feed. But for instance he had a feed at 3pm today and he wasn't interested at all but very grumpy so I thought I would over some solids and he gobbled them right down. I really want to keep b/feeding as long as possible but am very worried at this point that he is going to self wean. I don't really know the point of this post lol, but just wanted some tips and/or support.

By the way he isn't having any other fluid besides b/milk.

THanks

I would try a different hold for your left side.  Also, that's great you have a good solid eater, but I can understand your concern.  I would continue to offer breast and try not to offer solid instead of breast.  You could be on a slippery slope if you continue.  Maybe try some expressed milk in a sippy cup instead of solids.

Of course, I'm not sure what your routine looks like.  Maybe your lo is ready to have solids twice a day already.
