When weaning to a sippy....cold turkey or gradual?
« on: May 18, 2006, 15:56:50 pm »
Ella has been drinking water out of a straw sippy for about 2-3 months.  She'll turn 9 months next week and I want to drop the mealtime bottles in favor of a sippy.  Is it better to do one meal at a time (say for a week) or just go cold turkey and all meal time formula is now served in a sippy?

What's worked for you?

Our son was on 3 bottles a day for a while, so we dropped the lunchtime botte first and gave him whole milk with his lunch and his morning and afternoon snack.  We also offered it at breakfast and dinner, but it seemed that he drank the most of it with his snacks.  Now we're about to drop another bottle.  I don't know if I will do morning or night time.  I didn't put any formula in his sippy cup.  It was either water or milk.  Hope this helps.

I give DD milk in her cup with breakfast and dinner and water with lunch.
She currently has 3x6oz bottles and will drop her lunch bottle in a month's time.
I plan on weining the bottle around 12months.

I think I may have figured out what was going on.   We warmed Ella's bottles slightly and I was putting cold formula into a sippy.  So the sippy wasn't new but formula in it was and on top of it it was cold.  So for about 2 1/2 days I gave  her cold formula in all her bottles and tried again today at lunch with formula in a sippy and she took 4-5 oz...her normal amount for that meal!

Yea!!! Progress!
