my daughter is 8 months old, at bedtime 6.30pm, she will have her last bottle of milk and fall fast asleep in my arms. If she wakes up as i put her down, she immediatley starts to talk/shout to me, turns short ways in the cot and either grabs her teddy or kicks the side of the cot. i have tried the pu/pd but i just cant seem to do that right. Keira cannot put herself to sleep in her cot, she can seem totally awake but if i pick her up she will just conk out in my arms. Can anybody help please? many thanks

Can you post your winddown routine for naps and bedtime please?

It may be that through some accidental parenting the only way she knows of going to sleep is in your arms, when she's being put down she's waking and because she's no longer in your arms she doesn't know how to get back to sleep.

The only real way to rectify this is PU/PD.  Post your winddown though and we'll see if we can tweak it to help.

I agree w/ mia's mom:  accidental parenting is probably the culprit.

But if it makes you feel better:  my Dd is 8 mos. old, and when I put her in her crib and leave her, she plays and kicks the bars and flips all around ( never falls asleep in the same position she started in).  Sometimes she'll fuss/cry, and I may even have to soothe her with my voice, but she always rolls to her side and goes to sleep on her own.

So you probably need to work on the fact that she's used to you picking her up and letting her sleep in your arms (accid. parenting), but it is normal for Baby to kick, roll and play at bedtime.  they're just getting all their energy out.

My little one has been known to do that also...I just let him play around until he gets fussy (no more than 15 minutes) and wants to go to sleep, then I do pu/pd.

Hi again, thankyou all so much for helping me....i really do appreciate this.
ok, 4.30-5.00 pm is dinnertime. Then she plays with her toys.
6pm i take her up to her room and lay her in her cot and prepare the bath.Keira will be playing with heffalump and kicking the cot and i put on her cot mobile.
I then  put her in the bath with me for about 15 minutes.
I dry her , put on pj's and put her back in cot and again she kicks, shouts and throws heffalump around the cot again while i make her bottle up.
I then sit in my chair in her room, lay her onto a pillow and give her her milk, she takes about 190ml and conks out completely.
I then have to get her into her cot as quietly as i can and sneak out of the room.
If im not succesful she wakes up and shouts, turns around and kicks the cot and i pick her up and try again. (onto the pillow, snuggled into me and i put the dummy in and she conks out straight away)
I tried the pu/pd but im really confused about how i should be doing it. She doesnt tend to cry so i dont know whether i should pick her up when she is just shouting or leave her there. I tried to let her kick and shout for about 10 mins once while i looked busy in her room but i gave in and picked her up, purely because i didnt want to stress her because i didnt know what i was doing.
She has started waking up again any time from midnight to 4am and i go in, pick her up and she conks out, although sometimes she will only sleep after another bottle. Im not sure if its because she has just cut 4 top teeth in a week? (2weeks ago)
