Nap issues... very frustrated
« on: June 02, 2006, 18:39:44 pm »
Ok, I'm not sure if this should go in General Sleep, or here.  Please move if it needs to.  Thanks

lo's age - 8.5 months

your lo's general routine/schedule for the day - For the past week:
6:30/7 wake and bf
8/8:30 solids
9:45/10 nap for 30, can usually extend another 30 w/o much issue
11 bf
12:30 solids
2 nap for 30, nearly impossible to extend
3 bf
4:30 solids
5:30 bed routine
5:50 bf
6/6:15 bed, sleep by 6:30 at the latest

wind-down that you use - we go to her room and turn on white noise and music and light off.  Sit in chair just a tiny bit or she gets very antsy.  Lay in crib and rub back until settled then do wi/wo as long as needed.

any other information that you think is pertinent - I do believe that I am a prop by rubbing her back   :-[ and I also believe that she is very overtired.  I have tried putting her down earlier for naps, but it really doesn't seem to make a bit of difference.  She was doing well with her naps until last week when teeth broke through and she wound up with a fever.  She now has a runny nose, but she is sleeping great at night (well, last night DH had to go in twice before 10, but other than that, the last week has been fine)  I don't know what to make of it, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Stacy,

We are working on lessening the rubbing of the back.  Tonight was better.  When I did the wi part, I didn't have to go to her, I stood away from the crib and just talked to her until she calmed, then I left.  Only took 20 minutes tonight.

When I go in after the first 30 min, she is still laying down and her head doesn't even pop up.  I did try the other day to get her up, but she was such a grouch, and no go on a longer PM nap.  I truely think she still needs the 2 naps, at least an hour each.

On a good note, I was able to extend the PM nap today.  She woke at 20 min and went back for another 40.

Does w2s work the same way for naps as it does for night wakings?  Do you just go in and stir.  I did try early on (ages ago) but it just woke her instead.  She is a touchy and very very very light sleeper.  ::)  We can't even peek on her before we go to bed for fear we will wake her (we have)

I would be oh so terrified to use noise.  Half the time I think it's noise that wakes her in the first place (dd1 was playing mini golf in the kitchen right below dd2's room yesterday when she woke.  And how dare I open the basement door during a nap today  ::) )

Thanks, I may tell dh to try tomorrow AM, as I will be at the gym  :D

Hi Rachel,

Just wanted to say we are going through a silmilar issue at the moment  ::)
From 5.5-8months she was doing 12hrs night and 2x1.5-2hr naps. Then her nights went to 11/11.5hrs and her PM nap started to get shorter until it was 30-45mins and the last few days she has really fought it. So whether she likes it or not i am limiting her AM nap to 1.15hrs to start with to see how long she will sleep in the PM. I way have to limit it to 1hr so i can get 1-1.15hrs in the PM.
