:o  Hi.  My DS turns 8 mths old last week.  I weighted him, he has not gained any weight again for 4 weeks.  This happed before when we visited HK for 6 weeks when he was 4.5 mths old to 6 mths..he only gained 1 oz.  Then from 6 mths to 7.2 mths he gained 1 lb.  I want to know exactly how many times should I BF him per 24 hrs period..he started to sleep through the night 1 mth ago so no more night feeding.  Of course I returned to dreamfed him 1 week ago at least once sometimes twice at night.  I have cut down the amount of solid during the day because of his constipation problem and my hope of him taking in more bm duing the day..he is very distracted in the day time to nurse.  He would nurse for 2-3 mins then pull up to sit.  If I won't let him, he would cry.  I have better luck at night or when he's tired and sleepy.  I ended up nursing him to sleep all the time.   This is definitely not EASY routine.  I need help and info?  thanks!  May

Hi ya..the experts will be along soon enough to help you. Can't off you much until you post a bit of a schedule so we can see how much and when etc he is eating/drinking.
Then the experts will have a better idea of how to help you...

Hi, May,
I'm sorry I can't speak to the weight gain issue...  I haven't had that experience.  I agree with Lola about the experts coming.  :)  One thought...  did you weigh him on the same scale this time as 4 weeks ago?  Sometimes that can make a significant difference...

I can tell you that around 8 months my ds would suck for a few minutes & then struggle to sit up.  Like yours, he would cry if I didn't let him.  I found that if I let him sit up & look around for a few moments, I could then get him to re-latch & we'd start the process over.  We'd usually repeat that a few times over the course of the feed.  He's 10 months now & has mostly outgrown that need.  HTH.  Hang in there!

May,
Yes, please post your current feeds and daily routine.  Is he growing lengthwise?  Many babies tend to level off with weight gain, but grow in length instead (become long and lean).  Have you taken him to the dr to have him weighed?  Placed a call to the dr?  Is the dr concerned?  Teething?  When my lo was 8 months she was taking 4 feeds a day, but every baby is different.

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months
