Wake to Feed?
« on: June 25, 2006, 13:31:16 pm »
My best friend just had her lo June 16.  All Kiera wants to do is sleep!  (Yeah, my poor friend!!! :))  They have even put ice cubes on her to wake her and she doesn't!!!! :o  Anyway, her lactation consultant gets angry with her saying that she should be waking her every 3hours to feed.  My friend might wake her after 5 hours at night to feed her and she falls back to sleep in no time.  She doesn't want to wake if sleeping.  Now Kiera is gaining weight, so I said that shouldn't be a problem not waking her to feed every 3 hours.  During the day Kiera will stay awake about 1-1.5 hours after a feed playing, so she's not lethargic.
Any thoughts?

It is so nice of you to be concerned.  Yes, she should be waking her every 3 hours to eat during the day... that will help to set her internal clock to differentiate between day and night.  Most babies this age can only handle a diaper change after a feed (as activity) so she may not see that 1-1.5 hr A time, but should not be concerned.
